Afterschool homework clubs, where children also get a nutritious meal.
So much depends on getting a good education. Yet many poor, rural parents do not have money for school fees or uniforms, and their children do not have access to computers, the right environment to study in and help with their homework. That is why we set up bursaries and afterschool clubs with desks, libraries, stationery and computer equipment and, most importantly a free, nutritious meal (possibly their only meal for the day) - because it is very difficult to learn on any empty stomach. Specialist helpers supervise and work with the children whilst they are doing their homework. This helps them feel supported and more able to cope with the challenges of school and learning.
Many rural children live in homes where there is little natural light, no electricity and no peace and quiet. Help the Rural Child sees the provision of a space in which a child can sit quietly and work on some homework as a vital support mechanism in helping children to stay in school and get the most out of their education.
