Fresh Organix – a gardening project growing fresh vegetables to improve children’s diets.
The diet of rural children is often very poor. It is poor in variety and nutrition and is often directly bad for their health. The main reasons for poor diet are low income and a lack of knowledge about healthy eating.
We do our best to encourage healthier eating habits and we set out to provide a healthy meal every day for the children at our Rural Youth Centres.
Making that meal as nutritious as possible is a key objective and by growing our own produce we can ensure that a high percentage of what the children eat is organic and truly healthy. We also use the garden to teach children about growing vegetables. A recent survey conducted in Britain showed that 93% of children who are exposed to growing their own produce from primary school age, start to change their eating habits
