Teaching Parenting Skills

Teaching parenting skills so that babies get loving care in their first years of life.

Parenting skills are vitally important in order to give each baby the best possible start in life. The first eighteen months are crucial. Our primary vision is always to protect, nurture, love and support the child during its formative years.

Bringing up a child with all its many pressures and demands as well as the difficulties that can be faced by very poor women, who are often unsupported by a partner – these are all areas of concern for Help the Rural Child.

Improving children’s life chances starts with educating the young about responsible parenting with particular stress on the obvious difficulties to be faced by teenage pregnancy.  Keeping children in school and talking to young men and women about the issues has proven very effective in cutting teenage pregnancy rates in the areas where Centres are established.

Many parents have never experienced positive parenting themselves and have no role models to follow.  Working with parents in the early months of a child’s life to provide specialist input and moral support can make all the difference to a child’s future.
