Don’t underestimate the importance of sport. Sports facilities for rural children are difficult to come by and yet sport teaches team skills, contributes to good health, unites family and community.
Children love nothing more than playing a game of football, rugby or netball and the joy of working hard with your team mates to improve yourself and the team’s performance is a valuable and important learning and development tool.
Being a valued member of a team is a huge boost for children that might have no other opportunity in their daily life to find a measure of their self-worth. Sport gives children an opportunity to dream of becoming a star …… a David Beckham, or a Brian Habana. And dreams encourage ambition - something very much needed in rural South Africa today. We want to expand the sports facilities available for all the children coming to our Centres and, whilst this is difficult to do as sports fields and courts come at a high price, we will work hard to provide them as we expand our activities. |
