After school homework clubs, where children also get a nutritious meal.
So much depends on getting a good education. But so many poor children do not have money for school or uniforms, access to computers or the right environment and support to do their homework. That is why we set up bursary schemes and after school clubs with desks, libraries, stationery and computer equipment and, most importantly a nutritious meal - because who can learn on any empty stomach? Many rural children live in homes where there is little natural light, no electricity and no privacy or peace and quiet. Help the Rural Child sees the provision of a space in which a child can sit quietly and work on some homework as a vital support mechanism in helping children to stay in school and get the most out of their education. Providing specialist helpers who can advise and work with the children whilst they are doing their homework helps to make them feel supported and able to cope with the pressures of school and learning. Every child attending the homework classes gets a FREE meal which, in many cases, may be their only meal of the day. |
